Naturally connecting to the cycles of the earth, sun, moon and stars
Our modern world has been disconnected from the cycles nature and of the cosmos for a very long time. Since industrialisation in fact when people started to move off the land and were encouraged to live in cities. In the cities they began to live life far removed from natural cycles. When people lived off the land they needed to know the seasonal cycles of the earth, moon and sun to grow food, to know when to sow, when to harvest, when was the best time to catch fish, when they needed to pickle and preserve for the winter. They were in tune with the seasons, the solstices and equinoxes and worked from when the sun came up and went to bed after the sun set.
But when the industrial cities started flourishing, these people, who like the Indigenous Aboriginals were connected to their land, were lured into the cities with the promise of a better life. They were encouraged to move into tiny little boxes called apartments or workers cottages and to work in factories where they worked under false light, for long hours and become the manual labour force for factory owners. The factory owners became the new gentry – the class beneath the nobility, today known as heads of multinational corporations – CEOs, chairs, board of directors and executives.
Since then, people around the world continue to work in factories, and in third world country factory sweat shops. In the industrialised, western world we have evolved from working in blue collar jobs into mainly white collar positions, often in high-rise buildings for banks and other financial industries, corporations, computer and tech companies, food production multinationals and cosmetic and personal care corporations. After several generations of living in city and suburban environments because we spend so much time away from the rhythms of nature, you could say we’ve started living a ‘synthetic’ way to life.

Here at Sacred Essences we know what it means to work in synthetic environments, we did it for years!
The reason why the synthetic world keeps recreating, multiplying itself is that in high volume production industries like large scale food and cosmetic and personal care industries, to give products long shelf lives they include loads of synthetic materials to make products last as long as possible. You’ve heard of Frankenstein food right? The experiments where people left a burger out in the sun for days and weeks and it looked as fresh as ever. High volume products are in circulation for many years so the more chemical additives you pour these products, the longer they can last.
Researchers have found that hundreds of unregulated chemicals are added to personal care products and foods and no one yet knows the full consequences of how these chemicals are affecting humans, animals and nature. Source
Further, the buy-products of mass production include massive amounts of packaging including plastics which we now know are literally suffocating the planet and killing wildlife, not to mention hormone disrupting chemicals in personal care products and cosmetics. Source
When we use these types of products together with consuming non-stop 24/7 mainstream media, not only can it effect our physical, emotional and mental health but we become more and more detached from the natural world and natural cycles. We get used to living a disposable lifestyle where we can throw away so much food along with other household items just like we’d throw away a chocolate wrapper, while we watch starving people on TV. That said, we all buy, use and consume some of these mass produced products on a daily basis, but we can make a change when we start becoming aware of what we consume and make conscious decisions to buy and do less of what is damaging to our wellbeing and to that of the planet, and do more of what feels right.
In lieu of most of us living in synthetic environments, anything and everything we can do to re-align ourselves with the earth, moon and sun cycles can only be a good thing. The surest way to get back to our ‘source’, our centre is, according to Rudolf Steiner who is the creator of the Steiner school system and Biodynamic agriculture, to connect to the natural world as much as possible. This helps to get us back into synchronicity with our own natural cycles, our biological rhythms. It should be noted that Silicon Valley executives send their children to Steiner (Waldorf) schools which are all about connecting to the earth, moon, sun and stars that greatly limit regular use of computers and other electronic devices. Yet these same execs are selling the very same mass produced devices that they limit their own children from using, to the rest of the world! Source
At Sacred Essences we moved from inner city Sydney to the Blue Mountains and are connecting more and more with the natural cycles and elements of nature. Given how this move has helped us from being stressed and under pressure on a daily basis, to becoming calmer and more relaxed, we try to encourage everyone we know to do the same. This means connecting to the little things in life that make life worth living like taking time to go for a walk in nature, the park, the foreshore, the bush with a friend, your dog, going for a swim, spending quality time with loved ones and also using and consuming products that are more in sync with nature. Eating fresh and live foods. LOVE makes the world go round and loving as many things around you as possible is a staple for a good, healthy and honest life. Love can also take control of those pesky trolls in our minds!
We love our Sacred Essences products. They feel good to make as we are using natural ingredients and natural materials. They have a resonance and depending on the oils and gemstones used, each bead or oil has a connection to either the earth, moon, sun or stars.
We’re grateful that in our later life, after many years of working mainly in front of a computer and in an air-conditioned office, we can now balance working from a home office, but also be able to plant veggies, fruit trees and herbs and explore the joys of making and sharing our serums, potions and healing jewellery with all the people who can love and appreciate the products we make.
