ROSEHIP OIL (Rosa Canina) is rich with beauty essentials such as anti-inflammatory fatty acids, gamma linolenic acid and vitamins A and C. It treats signs of aging and pigmentation, hydrates skin and provides a strong protective antioxidant boost. It hydrates, moisturises, helps exfoliate and brightens skin and helps to reduce hyper pigmentation.
The plant was first described as a medicinal plant by Roman naturalist and natural philosopher Pliny the Elder (23–79 BC), who encountered its use among French tribes in the treatment of dog bites. In Europe, it was also described by the well-known German nun Hildegard of Bingen (AD 1098–1179), who used it as a strengthening tea in her treatments. SOURCE
Rosehip oil is rich in vitamins A and C, which are both necessary for the production of collagen. Rosehip has also been shown to inhibit the creation of MMP-1, an enzyme that breaks down collagen in the body. SOURCE
Dr. Carrie Lam, MD, DABFM, ABAARM, FAAMFM says, ‘Extensive studies have shown rosehip seed oil to have a positive effect on scars, stretch marks, sunburn, and aging skin. Because of its high fatty acid content, Rosehip seed oil penetrates the skins upper layers very quickly, making it a good moisturizer.’
Despite its impressive resume of healing benefits, rosehip has been seriously overlooked. It’s recently sprang back into popularity through celebrity endorsements, and people are starting to realize what they’ve been missing. Now, with a bevy of A-lister beauties including Rose Byrne, Kate Middleton and Miranda Kerr said to be fans, it’s no wonder that rosehip oil has become a must-have product in daily beauty routines.
CASTOR OIL has been used in skin care for thousands of years. Studies have shown that castor oil is an effective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, both of which help fight free radicals and slow the aging process. Castor oil contains fatty acids that have moisturizing and skin health-enhancing properties. These properties pamper the skin and can help keep wrinkles at bay. It’s reported to help minimise and reduce wrinkles around the eye area.
PATCHOULI OIL was popularised in the 1960s when the hippy generation was called the ‘Patchouli Generation’. This oil is so potent it’s been used for hundreds of years. Its high value was inspired by early European traders who exchanged patchouli for gold! It was believed that the Pharaoh, King Tutankhamun was buried with 10 gallons of patchouli oil inside his tomb.
Patchouli oil contains a variety of skin benefits and can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, blemishes, and skin imperfections. It moisturises rough and chapped skin and helps the body retain a healthy-looking, youthful appearance. Patchouli Oil’s astringent properties help prevent the early onset of sagging skin and hair loss.
Patchouli oil can encourage a restful sleep and is balancing, grounding and mood harmonising.
YLANG-YLANG OIL is an essential oil that’s been used in perfumes from the beginning of time and for good reason. It doesn’t only possess a strong sweet aroma, according to a 2015 Study ylang-ylang was shown to have antioxidant effects that help aid skin renewal.
It was shown to help rebuild the skin’s proteins and fats while reducing the number of free radicals. Skin care companies add ylang-ylang to many of their products to take advantage of its healing properties.
SWEET ORANGE OIL is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and is antioxidant, which makes it an ideal ingredient in skin care products. Orange Oil can increase the ability to absorb Vitamin C, collagen production, and blood flow, all of which are essential for anti-aging. The antioxidants reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging. Using products with sweet orange essential oil can over time smooth wrinkles and decrease the not so fine lines.
FRANKINCENSE OIL is a must in any skincare routine. It’s been used since Ancient Egyptian times to help keep the skin looking youthful and supple. Its benefits include the ability to strengthen skin and improve its tone and elasticity and it defends against bacteria and blemishes as a person ages. It may also help tone and lift skin, reduce the appearance of scars and acne, and heal wounds.
According to a review published in the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, frankincense oil reduces redness and skin irritation, while also producing a more even skin tone. Studies suggest that it’s the steroid-like structure of frankincense oil that contributes to its soothing effect on irritated skin.
Frankincense oil has a host of other benefits including reducing inflammation as noted in this study, it contains potential cancer-fighting properties, anti-bacterial effects which boost immunity and fight infections, improves anxiety and increases spiritual awareness.
ROSE OIL is made from the world’s most romantic flowers. It can help brighten up dull, aging skin. Not only does the oil stimulate blood flow to the skin, which encourages a youthful complexion, but it also encourages the production of collagen in the skin.
Studies suggest that rose oil may have antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Reducing inflammation can help reduce puffiness and redness in the skin. Rose oil may be particularly helpful for skin cell renewal, which can help the skin to look youthful for longer.
SANDALWOOD OIL Early studies indicate that sandalwood may have anti-inflammatory properties. In addition to these properties, sandalwood helps restore moisture to the skin. When the skin is adequately hydrated, it can appear plumper and lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
ROSEWOOD OIL With an extensive history of use in French perfumery, rosewood became popular in 1921 when Chanel No. 5 was released.
Rosewood oil (Aniba rosaeodora Ducke) is rich in linalool. The natural linalool properties in rosewood essential oil are anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and have been used for anxiety reduction which may boost the immune system. SOURCE
The added health benefit of this oil is that it’s calming and promotes tranquillity. Feeling good helps the facial expressions be more relaxed thus reducing the tension that may create fine lines and wrinkles. Aging is more gradual when the mind is calm and at peace.
IMMORTELLE OIL (Helichrysum italicum) Helichrysum italicum is known as the Immortal or Everlasting flower and is a member of the daisy/sunflower family.
Helichrysum italicum essential oil has an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory-rich composition. It is said to have better efficacy than vitamin E. RESEARCH results suggest that Helichrysum italicum essential oil can protect skin from pollution and UV induced oxidative stress because of its radical scavenger properties.
HELICHRYSUM ITALICUM FLOWER ESSENCE INFUSED IN OLIVE OIL Fresh golden blossoms of Everlasting are hand-gathered and solar infused into organic olive oil.
Olive oil is beneficial because of its fatty acid content. Topically applied (on the skin) olive oil can protect against environmental damage. When olive oil is mixed in a formula in small amounts with other beneficial ingredients – as it is used in Aphrodite Rejuvenating Face Serum– you get the benefit of its emollient properties (softening and soothing the skin) along with antioxidant benefit.
Flower Essences in general capture the energetic imprint, or signature of a plant. Flowers are the highest expression of the life force of a plant. Their energy and expression is transferred into, captured and preserved by the extra virgin olive oil.
Helichrysum italicum flower essence holds the energetic imprint of the sun, hope, and healing.
Helichrysum flower essence is a potent catalyst to move through blockages and obstacles. It’s said to have an ability to clear the places within us that are emotionally damaged and wounded. It opens the doors of perception, allowing us to see ourselves and our lives in a new, fresh way, enhancing creative flow. It can be used to strengthen the will and to motivate and inspire.
Goddess Aphrodite’s healing powers
Aphrodite’s innocence was renewed on an annual basis at her temple on Crete. Her priestesses carried her statue into the sea for a ritual bathing. This act of re-creation and restoration was bestowed by the Graces.
This return to innocence is one of Aphrodite’s many gifts to you. You can be restored from the wounds of heartbreak, regret, guilt, and shame. Your past does not need to be your present. But for healing, you must first love and honor yourself.
The personal transformation that comes from self-care and self-love is another one of Aphrodite’s gifts. Many images depict her gazing at herself in a mirror, or bathing, or luxuriating with her nymphs. She appreciates what her body does for her and she loves to be adorned with beauty. Beauty is inspirational. It enables us to get a taste of the sublime.
Too often we are so hard on ourselves and we deprive ourselves by not getting enough sleep, enough nourishing food, or time for pleasure and play. Instead we might work way too hard, depriving ourselves of some of our basic needs.
Aphrodite’s message is that when we do take care of ourselves we feel so much better. Our souls are more joyous. We sleep better because we aren’t so stressed. Play and pleasure gives us joy, which dispels anxiety and worry. Our relationships are more rewarding because we aren’t grumpy, fatigued, and short tempered.
Self-love is taking care of ourselves so that we can show up as a happier, more joyous person. It actually enables us to be more effective and productive because we are more able to find joy and passion in what we do.
